“Great weather, fast boats and the incredible Mission Bay is why our fans return every year,” said Bob Davies, race director for HomeStreet Bank presents San Diego Bayfair. “If you love competition on the water, Mission Bay is the place to be next weekend.”
H1 Unlimited will decide its world championship on Mission Bay after stops in Madison, Ind., Tri-Cities, Wash., Seattle and Detroit. Shane is looking to defend his Bill Muncey Cup and repeat as the tour’s national high points champion.
The piston-powered Grand Prix West hydroplanes will bring the noise as these hydroplanes feature big-block engines and are loud enough to be heard well beyond Mission Bay. Filling out the racing lineup is RPM Racing, which is sanctioning the smaller racing classes.
San Diego Bayfair will once again hold its annual Military Appreciation Day on Saturday, September 17. Active military and reservists receive free admission and their family members can purchase discounted tickets.
Other activities on land include beer gardens, a large vendor area open to the public on East Vacation Island and activities for the kids. San Diego Bayfair also offers RV spaces to rent on Mission Bay, one of the few opportunities to stay overnight in Mission Bay Park. RV Packages include four nights and five days, plus tickets to the event.
Testing and qualifying with limited racing takes place on Friday, September 16. Heat races and championship races take place Saturday and Sunday. The HomeStreet Bank Bill Muncey Cup for H1 Unlimited is tentatively set for 4:15 pm on Sunday, September 18.
All of the participating boats will be stationed on East Vacation Island/Ski Beach, the main event site for San Diego Bayfair. All spectators can tour the pit area at no additional charge, allowing fans to get up close and personal with the boats and teams on Mission Bay.
Single-day tickets start at $25 and a three-day Super Pass is available for $45. Children under age 12 are free. For more information or to purchase advance tickets online, visit sandiegobayfair.org.
